{"id":998,"date":"2015-10-17T11:00:53","date_gmt":"2015-10-17T11:00:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/?p=998"},"modified":"2016-04-21T15:14:32","modified_gmt":"2016-04-21T15:14:32","slug":"what-makes-a-great-entrepreneur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/what-makes-a-great-entrepreneur\/","title":{"rendered":"What Makes a Great Entrepreneur?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the first day of the entrepreneurial bootcamp that forms the core\u00a0of training for the <a href=\"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/projectAreas\/womensEntrepreneurship.html\" target=\"_blank\">Fellowship for Young Women Entrepreneurs<\/a>, the founders heard from two very special Jordanian guests about what makes a great company&#8211;and a great entrepreneur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cA Day in the Life of a Startup Founder\u201d featured\u00a0Lina Hundaileh, a serial entrepreneur and chocolate baroness, and Iman Mutlaq, the CEO of Sigma Investments and Ingot Brokers. Both women\u00a0care deeply for women&#8217;s empowerment and the success of women entrepreneurs, and are exemplary role models for budding\u00a0female leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1004\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1004\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1004 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Lina-e1445086109457.jpg\" alt=\"Lina\" width=\"500\" height=\"258\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1004\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lina Hundaileh: &#8220;Failure is not an option.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">No matter what obstacles arise, Ms. Hundaileh (above) insisted\u00a0that for entrepreneurs, \u201cfailure is not an option.\u201d Her story of founding\u00a0and running a chocolate manufacturing company, and then starting Chocolography, a company that personalizes chocolate gifts, is one about\u00a0leveraging her unique product and agility to navigate around competitors, rather than face them head on. To be a good entrepreneur, you have to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u201cget out of your comfort zone&#8211;you won\u2019t know what you are missing if you don&#8217;t.\u201d By thinking\u00a0creatively, Ms. Hundaileh was able grow her business into one of the biggest chocolate companies in Jordan.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1002\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1002\" style=\"width: 1280px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1002 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Iman.jpg\" alt=\"Iman Mutlak and Susan Preston\" width=\"1280\" height=\"850\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Iman.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Iman-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Iman-1024x680.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Iman Mutalk: &#8220;I erase the words &#8216;I cannot&#8217; from my life.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\">Iman Mutlaq (above) also struck an inspirational note when speaking to the young women, saying, &#8220;I erase the words &#8216;I cannot&#8217; from my life,<span class=\"s1\">&#8221; because with a positive attitude, one can\u00a0accomplish anything. And she should know. Ms. Mutlaq is a Goodwill Ambassador for Peace and empowering women. She has helped lead hundreds of women entrepreneurs towards success while serving as President of the International Association for Human Values in Jordan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1003\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1003\" style=\"width: 850px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Hagop.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1003 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Hagop.jpg\" alt=\"Hagop\" width=\"850\" height=\"1280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Hagop.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Hagop-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Hagop-680x1024.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1003\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hagop Taminian: &#8220;Be so good that they can\u2019t ignore you.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Hagop Taminian, an Investment Principal at Silicon Badia, one of Open Hands Initiative&#8217;s Community Partners, talked to the entrepreneurs from an investor&#8217;s point of view. An important lesson he relayed when facing investors is that entrepreneurs need to focus on\u00a0investing in themselves and their companies, first and foremost. There is no &#8220;hacking&#8221; your way to quality.
