He is also the author of a blog entitled, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/dcubed.dilipdsouza.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Death Ends Fun<\/a>.&#8221; You can read more about the winner on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2012\/06\/20\/newsweek-the-daily-beast-open-hands-prize-winner.html\">Daily Beast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Newsweek-Daily-Beast-Prize-For-Commentary-in-South-Asia-Event.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-720\" title=\"Newsweek Daily Beast Prize For Commentary in South Asia Event\" src=\"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Newsweek-Daily-Beast-Prize-For-Commentary-in-South-Asia-Event-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Newsweek-Daily-Beast-Prize-For-Commentary-in-South-Asia-Event-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Newsweek-Daily-Beast-Prize-For-Commentary-in-South-Asia-Event.jpg 503w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On June 20th, a special <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/articles\/2012\/06\/22\/newsweek-the-daily-beast-open-hands-prize-ceremony-india-in-the-21st-century.html\">awards ceremony<\/a> (seen above) was co-hosted by Tina Brown, Lawrence Schiller, Diliana and Spas Roussev, and Tunku Varadarajan at the Asia Society in New York City to commemorate the occasion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-715\" style=\"margin: 3px;\" title=\"daily-beast logo\" src=\"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/daily-beast-logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"116\" height=\"139\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This joint prize, which was created in order to inspire and nurture up and coming talent from the South Asia region, includes a $25,000 cash award, a one-month residency at the Norman Mailer Center and Writers Colony in\u00a0Massachusetts, as well as year long bi-weekly column on The Daily Beast.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to help foster and promote the work of an individual who has significantly contributed to the public narrative on important social, political, and cultural issues of their region.<\/p>\n<p>Open Hands Chairman Jay Snyder said of the prize, &#8220;It is my hope that through this award, Americans will gain greater exposure to important literary and journalistic voices that exist in South Asia.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Many talented columnists, writers, and journalists from across Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh were nominated for this award, but just one lucky writer won.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to <a href=\"http:\/\/dcubed.dilipdsouza.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dilip D&#8217;Souza<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update: Don&#8217;t miss a single article from Dilip D&#8217;Souza!
