{"id":673,"date":"2012-05-02T09:00:15","date_gmt":"2012-05-02T09:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/?p=673"},"modified":"2016-10-19T18:19:47","modified_gmt":"2016-10-19T18:19:47","slug":"the-silver-scorpion-becomes-an-animated-series-on-mtv-voices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/the-silver-scorpion-becomes-an-animated-series-on-mtv-voices\/","title":{"rendered":"The Silver Scorpion Becomes an Animated Series on MTV Voices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Open Hands Initiative is excited to announce that in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liquidcomics.com\/\">Liquid Comics<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.mtv.co.uk\/\">MTV Voices<\/a> it has launched an animated web series of the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/projectAreas\/silverScorpionComicBook.html\">Silver Scorpion<\/a>\u201d comic book.<\/p>\n<p>Created in Syria by 26 American and Syrian youths with disabilities while participating in the <a href=\"http:\/\/openhandsinitiative.org\/youthAbilitySummit\/youthAbilitySummit.html\">Youth Ability Summit <\/a>in 2010, the \u201cSilver Scorpion\u201d is the story of an Arabic boy named Bashir who loses his legs in a landmine accident and later realizes he has the superpower to bend metal with his mind. This innovative creation is the result of the collaboration between the American and Syrian youth and truly shows the power of people-to-people diplomacy. Together, the youths were able to bridge a cultural gap and promote an important message about understanding the challenges of living with a disability.<\/p>\n<p>Now the \u201cSilver Scorpion, the first ever cross-cultural superhero with a disability, is a four-part animated series\u00a0offered on MTV Voices\u2019 global websites in three languages all over Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Want a quick look? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0NI5_n5wwbg\" target=\"_blank\">Watch the trailer<\/a> or visit <a href=\"http:\/\/voices.mtv.co.uk\/\">MTV Voices<\/a> directly to watch episodes one, two and three.<\/p>\n<p>The series will be further promoted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iearn.org\/\">iEARN<\/a> (International Education and Resource Network), who have a global reach of over 45,000 schools in 130 countries.
