{"id":1354,"date":"2016-10-31T21:02:19","date_gmt":"2016-10-31T21:02:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/?p=1354"},"modified":"2018-05-07T20:30:06","modified_gmt":"2018-05-07T20:30:06","slug":"women-in-entrepreneurship-fellowship-one-year-later","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/women-in-entrepreneurship-fellowship-one-year-later\/","title":{"rendered":"Women in Entrepreneurship Fellowship: One Year Later"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since our\u00a0<span style=\"color: #068676;\"><a style=\"color: #068676;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/programs\/entrepreneurship.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Women in Entrepreneurship Fellowship<\/a><\/span>\u00a0took place last October in Jordan, the program alumni have had some notable successes, interesting pivots, and of course, plenty of challenges, as is common for early stage businesses. The\u00a0technical training provided during the program was helpful to many, shaping\u00a0the way they approached their target markets, finessed their financials, and fine-tuned their product offerings, services, and pitches.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t just the in-classroom experiences that had an impact. Nor was it the personalized mentoring they received from their trainers, although these were critical to the learning process.\u00a0Perhaps the\u00a0most\u00a0important element&#8211;one that still resonates with the women, even a year after the program in a personal way&#8211;is the cross-cultural exchange.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of incubators and accelerators can teach how to write a business plan, but few offer the unique experience of working across borders and learning from your peers from different cultures. The connections they built and the lessons they learned through this intense bonding experience gave them new ways to look at common challenges and fresh approaches to problem solving. It also showed them that entrepreneurs, the world over, have a lot to learn from each other, and a lot more in common than previously thought.<\/p>\n<p><strong>One year later, here are some of the key accomplishments our alumni can count among their professional milestones:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Recognition<\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #068676;\"><a style=\"color: #068676;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.solarpiezoclean.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Solar PiezoClean<\/a><\/span>, a company founded by <b><strong>Tala Nassraween<\/strong><\/b> (shown below alongside program leaders Gwen Edwards and Susan Preston during the program), won three prizes at the <span style=\"color: #068676;\"><a style=\"color: #068676;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ges2016.org\/press-releases\/2016\/6\/25\/gist-tech-i-pitch-competition-2016-announces-winners\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GIST Tech-I Pitch Competition Finals<\/a><\/span>.
