Dr. Abeer works at the forefront\u00a0of the\u00a0women&#8217;s movement in Jordan, and advocates for increased\u00a0female agency in the social, political and legal realms. She partners with major players including UN Women, the International Labor Organization and the World Bank to improve legislation relating to women&#8217;s political, social and economic participation. She is a lawyer by training, has written and translated fundamental\u00a0books and articles of the global, regional and Jordanian women&#8217;s movements, and is a key figure in the promotion of\u00a0gender equality in Jordan.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/centers.ju.edu.jo\/en\/wsc\/PublishingImages\/logo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"283\" height=\"198\" \/>Dr. Abeer outlined an inspiring overview of major trends and improvements in women&#8217;s empowerment in Jordan since the country&#8217;s founding. She highlighted the Center for Women&#8217;s Studies&#8217; projects and partnerships with women&#8217;s centers both in and out of academia, and the increasing gender dynamics within the Center\u00a0itself,\u00a0in which 30% of its enrolled students are men.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1016\" src=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Dr-Abeer-Pic-1-1024x938.jpg\" alt=\"Dr Abeer Pic 1\" width=\"450\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Dr-Abeer-Pic-1-1024x938.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.openhandsinitiative.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Dr-Abeer-Pic-1-300x275.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Over an expansive table spread of Fakher al-Din&#8217;s finest Lebanese cuisine\u00a0and endless courses, the fellows enjoyed a rich conversation with Dr. Abeer. The discussion allowed for\u00a0Fellowship founders\u00a0to\u00a0share personal experiences with gender issues in their professional lives, causing\u00a0the women\u00a0to find themselves in a similar boat; that, regardless of country, female entrepreneurs face the same challenges in the workplace.
